Post Modernism. - In the Post Modernism period the people began to question the time. The idea of Modernity was to provoke thoughts that may be scandalous. Post Modernim wanted to take on the present day, it didn't long for a time in the past. Artists started to delve into interdisciplinary art, sort of like a pix and mix for artists of the time. Allowing for a lot more experimental pieces. Such as the Cindy Sherman - Film Stills -

I love this image personally I feel that this also represents the everyday, its effortless and beautiful. Capturing a moment of human behavior and the everyday. There is a somewhat eerie feel to this piece also, the idea that someone is there watching and observing.

However, after time the Modernism ran out of steam and exhausted the cultural world.

This is when I decided to go out and observe what happens within this 'tea break', 'catch-up' or 'meeting'.

Were it all started...

Working in a Cafe/ Restaurant I am constantly surrounded by the general public. I therefore have a lot of time to watch and observe their actions as they sit and sip tea and coffee until they get up and leave and the next load come in.

The Idea first started with a tea stain.

The idea that only humans can make such a much therefore being a sole metaphor for human behavior and human presence.



These are the brand of tea we sell in my Cafe, I become intrigued by the teabag as it was very delicate and effortless containing different chunky bits of all kinds of different teas. I stopped and wondered why this small sculpture like object is the spark that makes people come together and talk, makes people want to sit down and relax etc.

Tea Words - these words and phrases are based upon my judgement of conversations that I have observed or conversations I've had myself. Some of them are about catching up with old friends or family and the others are based on them loooong awkward conversations that seem to delay seconds into minutes as you sit there wracking your brain for something to say.

Whilst researching tea and coffee i came across these images on this blog. They are different types of art using teabags

I love the words written on the teabags, they seem to all represent an action or emotion.

Similar to my tea words above.

I love the detail on these pieces and the freedom of the stitch. I helps express the emotion within the pieces and the people in the pieces. I personally like the frames in the first picture. It reminds me of old family portraits of different ancestors. I could spend hours looking at these pieces and there would still be more to discover. I feel that the embroidery hoops held on short, skinny stands are what makes the pieces. They remind me of a human figure. The piece I really related to was the two bottom images of the embroidery hoops linking to each other by small strands of thread. It reminds me of two people facing each other having a conversation - also linking to the everyday. For my project I have watched and observed conversations between people over tea and coffee. Are the pieces just that bit to close? Intimate? Aggression? the erratic flow of the thread between them for me symbolises a connection, are they partners? Are they family, friends, enemies? and Perhaps a deep conversation also?
